Dynamical variety of shapes in financial multifractality
The concept of multifractality offers a powerful formal tool to filter out
multitude of the most relevant characteristics of complex time series. The
related studies thus far presented in the scientific literature typically limit
themselves to evaluation of whether or not a time series is multifractal and
width of the resulting singularity spectrum is considered a measure of the
degree of complexity involved. However, the character of the complexity of time
series generated by the natural processes usually appears much more intricate
than such a bare statement can reflect. As an example, based on the long-term
records of S&P500 and NASDAQ - the two world leading stock market indices - the
present study shows that they indeed develop the multifractal features, but
these features evolve through a variety of shapes, most often strongly
asymmetric, whose changes typically are correlated with the historically most
significant events experienced by the world economy. Relating at the same time
the index multifractal singularity spectra to those of the component stocks
that form this index reflects the varying degree of correlations involved among
the stocks.Comment: 26 pages, 10 figure
Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed reports as a source of information on food hazards
Introduction
Food safety is a major challenge worldwide and an important factor frequently taken into account by consumers when making food choices. Over the years, a number of unfavorable phenomena related to food adulteration and an increase in its contamination have been observed, which in turn translates into a lower level of food quality and safety and a decrease in consumer confidence.
Aim
The aim of this study was to analyze the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) reports from 2019-2021 in terms of types of hazards in food.
Materials and methods
The research material consisted of the annual reports of the RASFF for the years 2019-2021.
Results
The submissions to the RASFF per product type system were dominated by those related to food. In 2020 and 2021, the most notifications concerned fruits and vegetables, dietetic food, food supplements, and fortified foods. In the group of 10 products causing the most frequent notifications, there are products of animal origin: meat and meat products (other than poultry), fish and fish products, milk and milk products, poultry meat and poultry meat products. The main threats associated with food in the last three years were contamination with Salmonella in poultry meat and poultry meat products, herbs and spices, and nuts, nut products and seeds; aflatoxins, especially in nuts, nut products and seeds; and pesticide residues in fruit and vegetables.
Conclusion
The observed increase in the number of notifications in the RASFF reports in 2019-2021 shows that all EU Member States are involved in monitoring food safety risks. The functioning of the RASFF system enables immediate action to be taken in the EU countries in relation to the risk, and allows for quick information transfer and elimination of products that are hazardous to the health of the consumer
COVID-19 and the nutrition of children and adolescents
Introduction
During childhood and adolescence, a properly balanced diet is very important, as it has a direct impact on health. During the COVID-19 pandemic, care for the proper diet has become particularly important, especially due to the growing wave of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents, observed especially in adolescence.
Aim
The aim of the study was to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the nutrition of children and adolescents.
Material and methods
The research tool was a questionnaire consisting of questions mainly related to the nutrition of children and adolescents. Adolescents are only included if they and their parents or legal guardians have given their informed consent to participate. If they expressed their willingness to participate in the study, the students received an electronic link to the questionnaire.
Results
Most of the respondents were girls / women living in the countryside. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on eating behavior was observed in 61% of respondents. Social isolation in 61% of people did not affect the regularity of eating meals. Most of the respondents (54%) did not observe an increase in their appetite during the lockdowns. The number of people consuming 1 and 5 meals has increased, and the number of people consuming 2 and 3 meals a day has decreased.
Conclusions
The time of social isolation associated with the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the nutrition of children and adolescents. The number of people eating 1 and 5 meals during social isolation has increased, and the number of people eating 2 and 3 meals has decreased. During social isolation, a decrease in the physical activity of children and adolescents was observed

Ablacja prądem o częstotliwości radiowej u pacjenta z zespołem preekscytacji i typową formą nawrotnego częstoskurczu węzłowego
Nawrotny częstoskurcz węzłowy (AVNRT, atriovetricular nodal reentrant tachycardia) i ortodromowy częstoskurcz nawrotny przedsionkowo-komorowy (AVRT, atriovetricular reentrant tachycardia) są przyczyną hospitalizacji pacjentów z częstoskurczami o wąskich zespołach komorowych odpowiednio w 60 i 30%. Powstała w latach 80. metoda ablacji prądem o częstotliwości radiowej (RFCA, radiofrequency current ablation) umożliwia przyczynowe leczenie obu typów częstoskurczu z wysoką skutecznością i niskim odsetkiem powikłań. Niewiele publikacji porusza problem współistnienia obu typów częstoskurczów u jednego pacjenta. Do kliniki przyjęto
34-letnią pacjentkę (B.Z.) z nawracającymi częstoskurczami o wąskich zespołach QRS i cechami preekscytacji w EKG spoczynkowym, w celu diagnostyki elektrofizjologicznej (EPS, electrophysiological study) i RFCA. W trakcie EPS stwierdzono cechy w spoczynkowym elektrokardiogramie odpowiadajęce lewostronnej bocznej preekscytacji lokalizacji drogi dodatkowego przewodzenia przedsionkowo-komorowego (AV, atrioventricular) oraz wywoływano w sposób powtarzalny AVRT. Z dostępu przez nakłucie przegrody międzyprzedsionkowej zniszczono drogę dodatkową, uzyskując ustąpienie cech preekscytacji. Podczas stymulacji kontrolnej stwierdzono cechy rozszczepienia łącza AV i wywołano typową formę AVNRT. Phase transition in the genome evolution favours non-random distribution of genes on chromosomes
We have used the Monte Carlo based computer models to show that selection
pressure could affect the distribution of recombination hotspots along the
chromosome. Close to critical crossover rate, where genomes may switch between
the Darwinian purifying selection or complementation of haplotypes, the
distribution of recombination events and the force of selection exerted on
genes affect the structure of chromosomes. The order of expression of gene s
and their location on chromosome may decide about the extinction or survival of
competing populations.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures, publicatio

z większą liczbą powikłań i mniejszą skutecznością zabiegów. Celem pracy była
ocena porównawcza przebiegu, skuteczności i obecności ewentualnych powikłań zabiegów
ablacji u chorych z drogą dodatkową o lokalizacji przegrodowej oraz pozaprzegrodowej.
Materiał i metody: Analizą objęto 149 chorych z objawowym zespołem WPW,
poddanych zabiegowi ablacji. U 70 pacjentów stwierdzono obecność drogi dodatkowej
o lokalizacji przegrodowej, u 79 osób - pozaprzegrodowej.
Wyniki: Nie stwierdzono istotnej różnicy skuteczności zabiegów ablacji u chorych
ze szlakami przegrodowymi oraz pozaprzegrodowymi (86% - szlaki przegrodowe, 96%
- szlaki pozaprzegrodowe). W obu grupach chorych zastosowano zbliżoną liczbę aplikacji
przy podobnym ich łącznym czasie. Obserwowano natomiast istotnie niższą skuteczność
zabiegów u chorych z obecnością drogi przegrodowej przedniej (ASP — 80%) oraz
przegrodowej tylnej (PSP - 81%) w porównaniu z lokalizacją przegrodową pośrednią
(MSP - 93%), przy istotnie dłuższym czasie procedury (ASP - 150 min; PSP - 174
min; MSP - 106 min) i większym łącznym czasie aplikacji (ASP - 335 s; PSP - 307
s; MSP - 187 s). Spośród badanych osób tylko u 1 pacjenta stwierdzono po ablacji
blok przedsionkowo-komorowy Io z blokiem prawej odnogi pęczka Hisa i obniżeniem
punktu Wenckebacha (szlak przegrodowy pośredni).
Wnioski: Ablacja dróg dodatkowych przewodzenia przedsionkowego o lokalizacji

Mathematical modeling of the integrated process of mercury bioremediation in the industrial bioreactor
The mathematical model of the integrated process of mercury contaminated wastewater bioremediation in a fixed-bed industrial bioreactor is presented. An activated carbon packing in the bioreactor plays the role of an adsorbent for ionic mercury and at the same time of a carrier material for immobilization of mercury-reducing bacteria. The model includes three basic stages of the bioremediation process: mass transfer in the liquid phase, adsorption of mercury onto activated carbon and ionic mercury bioreduction to Hg(0) by immobilized microorganisms. Model calculations were verified using experimental data obtained during the process of industrial wastewater bioremediation in the bioreactor of 1 m3 volume. It was found that the presented model reflects the properties of the real system quite well. Numerical simulation of the bioremediation process confirmed the experimentally observed positive effect of the integration of ionic mercury adsorption and bioreduction in one apparatus
